Variable Port - Optimum Flow - Tapered Shock Pistons
CSI is an American company specialising in 1:1 scale shock design and manufacture for Midget and Sprint Car racing, as well as open wheel Indy Cars. CSI is a two time winner of the IOW Manufacturer Of The Year Award In Open Wheel Racing Class.
CSI owner and chief designer Garrett Andrews is also an avid 1/8 off road racer, and has decided to put his extensive knowledge in shock design and construction towards creating a better shock piston for RC off-road shocks.
These pistons have been engineered and manufactured by Competition Suspension Inc. to provide enthusiasts with a shock piston that has been engineered specifically for R/C applications. CSI engineers developed the Optimum Flow Tapered Piston with varying port sizes to affect the dampening force curve of the shock as the shaft speed increases, reducing hydraulic effect while giving your shock progressive dampening forces, increasing your vehicles overall performance.
CSI (A) BLACK- Engineered to provide increased dampening forces for smoother track surfaces that are high bit (Astroturf) or blue groove.
CSI (A) pistons should be used with oil viscosity in the 30wt to 40wt range, or 350 cst to 500 cst.
CSI (B) BLUE - This is CSI's base line piston. It is engineered to provide excellent grip and more control as shaft speeds increase. The enhanced flow minimizes hydraulic lock, giving your shock progressive dampening forces, making them a perfect fit for most track conditions.
CSI (B) pistons should be used with oil viscosity in the 40wt to 50wt range, or 500 cst to 650 cst.
CS I(C) RED - CSI engineers have designed this piston to provide progressive dampening forces just like CSI (A) and (B) pistons. This piston provides the most flow and is ideal for tracks with lower grip levels. CSI (C) piston should be used with oil viscosity in the 50wt to 70wt range, or 600 cst to 850 cst.
NOTE : Each manufactures shock bore vary's in size. Shocks that are 15mm in bore size vs. 16mm, will require heavier viscosity fluids to achieve the same dampening forces. Please keep this in mind when building your shocks and making changes. Heavier vehicles (Truggy's and electric) will also require heavier fluids to compensate for the added weight and increased dampening forces.
Single set of 4 pistons (any colour) - $40
Kit with all three sets of pistons - $100
Piston sets are currently available for Losi, Associated, JQ, Serpent, Mugen, Agama
Soon to be released will be sets for X-Ray, Durango, Kyosho
